Gallery: CCES 2nd-graders say ‘thanks’ to law officers

Cox’s Creek Elementary School second-graders gave a big thank you to local law enforcement officers with gifts and a special appreciation event, Dec. 16, in the school cafeteria.

The CCES second-grade classes presented student-made Christmas cards and gift cards for local restaurants to officers representing the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Bardstown Police Department. Sheriff’s deputies Brian Voils, Joedy Gilliland and A. J. Lewis along with Bardstown police officer Andrew Riley received the cards for distribution at their respective departments. Chad Simpson of Louisville Metro Corrections also attended.

During the event, organized by second-grade teacher Shannon Jones, the children asked questions and shared some of their written thoughts about what it takes to be a law enforcement officer.

Sheriff’s deputies A. J. Lewis, Joedy Gilliland and Brian Voils enjoy an animated discussion with Cox’s Creek second-graders about the field of law enforcement.
